Peter Island, BVI

We are ecstatic to announce that our beautiful sister islands, the British Virgin Islands, have officially reopened for business, and Islands Roots Charters is ready to get you back there!

Where Is the BVI Located?

The BVI is located in the Caribbean Sea between Puerto Rico and Cuba. It consists of four main islands: Anegada, Jost Van Dyke, Tortola, and Virgin Gorda. There are also numerous smaller islands nearby.

Is it safe to travel to the BVI?

The BVI is now open again for visitors, and it is a game changer for all of us who have been dying for a pain killer on Jost Van Dyke, and a stop at Willy T’s on the way home from a fun day out on the water.

Of course, travelers to the BVI are still urged to take precautions to protect themselves from and prevent the spread of COVID-19, but no longer are negative tests needed for entry.

People who have recently returned from an area where COVID-19 has spread should wait 14 days before visiting the BVI. Finally, people who have symptoms of COVID-19 should stay away from the BVI until they recover.

Other than that, all other precautions like masks etc. have been lifted.

Where should I go?

You might be wondering what islands make up the British Virgin Islands?:

• Tortola – Tortola is the largest island in the BVI with a population of approximately 30,000 people. It is home to the capital city of Road Town, as well as several other towns and villages.

IRC recommendation: Cane Garden Bay has an expansive beach with lots of restaurants and bars so you will not get bored.

• Virgin Gorda – Virgin Gorda is a small island with only two settlements – Road Town and Spanish Town. Both are located on the south coast of the island. Road Town is the capital of the BVI while Spanish Town is the largest town.

IRC recommendation: You can’t go to Virgin Gorda without visiting The Baths.

• Jost Van Dyke – This island is located just off the coast of Tortola. It offers beautiful views and lots of opportunities for snorkeling and diving. As mentioned above, they are famous for their painkillers and white sandy beaches.

IRC recommendation: Gertrudes for their pour your own beverages and chicken rotis, Soggy Dollar Bar for their painkillers, and Hendo’s Hideout for the lobster tacos and ample bar room to sit and hang out with friends.

All of our BVI boat charters are unique and customized to the interests of the guests so your options are plentiful.

A “typical day” might include taking a swim at Sandy Spit, snorkeling the "Caves & Indians," exploring your way through the "Baths," walking the plank at the Willy T, hiking to the "Bubbly Pools, a lunch/cocktail stop in White Bay, history/storytelling, music, dancing and more.

We are ready to give you our suggestions based on what you are looking for. The British Virgin Islands has options for everyone.
